About Us!
Joel Barlow’s theatre program is designed to meet the needs both of students who are passionate about theatre and aim to continue their dramatic studies at a post-secondary level, as well as students who are beginning to explore the performing arts. Students are given a variety of opportunities throughout the year to be able to work collaboratively together on stage and behind the scenes.
We present two main productions every year. Our fall production takes place mid-November. The winter show is a highly stylized 45-minute play that we perform for the public in late-February. In March, we take this play to the Connecticut Drama Association festival— a gathering of high schools around the state where students are able to “share techniques and insight, make new friends, and immerse themselves in an immensely enriching theatrical experience.” The competition aspect of the festival isn’t stressed, but historically, Barlow has done pretty well. In addition to our main productions, there are many other opportunities to get involved in the performing arts. Joel Barlow offers electives in both theatre and stagecraft. Students share their talents during evening coffee houses throughout the year. Students also may volunteer to assist with middle school productions in Easton and Redding. Students also have opportunities to write and direct their own shows.
We invite you to join us. Explore our theatre program. Support us by donating or volunteering. Get involved by auditioning for our next show, or joining the pit or stage crew. Come and see our performances!
If you have any questions, feel free to contact us.
